If you think it's wrong that Dolly Parton has never headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show, so does the NFL. They've asked, but no luck so far. It's actually Dolly's fault.
She told "The Hollywood Reporter", quote, "I've been offered that many times. I couldn't do it because of other things, or I just didn't think I [could] do that big of a production. When you think about those shows, they're big, big productions.
"I've never done anything with that big of a production. I don't know if I could have. I think at the time that's what I was thinking."
There may be a happy ending to this modern tragedy . . . thanks to her upcoming album, "Rockstar". She adds, quote, "It would make more sense. That might change. I might be able to do a production show."
That show could feature tons of famous performers. There are over 40 stars on the album, including Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus, Pink, Elton John, Rob Halford, Ann Wilson, Sting, Steven Tyler, and Chris Stapleton.
She was also asked for her thoughts on cancel culture, and she said, quote, "I think it's terrible [because] everyone makes mistakes. If God can forgive you, so can I. If God can forgive you, we all should forgive one another."
Dolly's from Tennessee, and they brought up the state passing a bill that allows for discrimination against trans people. She said, quote, "What I always say, 'I just want everybody to be treated good.' I try to get into the human element of it.
"I have some of everybody in my own immediate family and in my circle of employees. I've got transgender people, gays, lesbians. I've got drunks, drug addicts . . . all within my own family. I know and love them all, and do not judge.
"That's who they are. They cannot help that any more than I can help being Dolly Parton, you know, the way people know me. If there's something to be judged, that is God's business.
"But we are all God's children and how we are is who we are."
