Gabby Barrett shared a stunning rendition of one of Kelly Clarkson’s most emotional ballads on Wednsday (April 2).

Clarkson released “Piece by Piece” in 2015. The heartfelt single served as the title track of the original American Idol champion’s seventh studio record, which also included “Heartbeat Song,” “Invincible,” “Run Run Run” featuring John Legend, the “Piece by Piece” Idol version (from her iconic performance in 2016), and more. Clarkson — known for her powerful covers of other artists’ songs on The Kelly Clarkson Show — swapped the lyrics of the song during her Las Vegas residency following her split from her ex-husband.

Barrett shared her cover of Clarkson’s “Piece by Piece” on Instagram. The country star, who competed on American Idol in 2018, hailed the ballad “one of the most powerful songs” as she sat on the floor singing it in the video. She shared in her caption: “I used to sit in the bathroom and sing all the time… feels like home. Should I add this to the set list??” As of publication time, dozens of Instagram commenters applauded the “incredible” rendition, and some encouraged Barrett to share a full cover and add it to her set.

Barrett recently hinted that she’ll announce new music soon. On March 12, she responded to a few questions from fans on her Instagram story, including one who asked “when are you releasing new music!?” Barrett said at that time that it’ll be “in a few weeks,” and “(you) can count on your hand!” Earlier this year, she said “the next song coming out is giving ‘I Hope’ vibes,” referencing the breakout single she released on her debut album in 2020.
