Pro Football Hall of Famer Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders reacted to news of the Tennessee Titans firing general manager Ran Carthon on Tuesday (January 7) amid speculation that the team could select his son and former quarterback Shedeur Sanders at No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

"WOW!" Sanders wrote with the eyes emoji in response to the Titans post announcing that the team had parted ways with Carthon.

The younger Sanders is currently projected as a potential top-five selection and, along with former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward, would fill the Titans' need at quarterback with the team expected to move on from former second-round pick Will Levis, who was drafted by Carthorn in 2023.

Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk notified Carthon of the team's decision Tuesday morning, days after a 3-14 finish in 2024 and 9-25 record during the past two seasons.

"I've loved the time I've spent with Ran. He's a talented football mind, a great man, and friend to everyone along his path," Strunk said in a statement on behalf of the team. "It's impossible to ignore that our football team hasn't improved over the past two years. I am deeply disappointed in our poor win-loss record during this period, of course, but my decision also speaks to my concern about our long-term future should we stay the course.

"I love this team more than you can imagine. To our fans: we know this level of performance isn't acceptable. We're humbled by your support as we continue to work towards building the team you expect and deserve."

The Titans confirmed that head coach Brian Callahan would continue his role for a second season and President of Football Operations Chad Brinker would lead the general manager search.
