Lainey Wilson teamed up with powerhouse vocalist Kelly Clarkson to perform a duet version of her latest single, “Country’s Cool Again,” on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday morning (March 5).
Wilson debuted “Country’s Cool Again” last month, embracing the resurgence of the country music genre and lifestyle. The vibrant country anthem also signals a fresh era on the horizon in the Baskin, Louisiana-born artist’s career, particularly following her award-winning album, Bell Bottom Country.
“I’m so excited for everyone to hear ‘Country’s Cool Again.’ This song is a welcome to everyone who’s wanting in on the Western way of life. For a lot of us, Country music isn’t just a genre, it’s our livelihood,” Wilson previously said in a statement of the single that inspired the name of her headlining tour. “Thank you to my amazing collaborators and my producer for helping me bring the idea of this song to life. Country’s Cool Again y’all!”
Wilson spoke with Clarkson on the daytime talk show in addition to the performance. During their conversation, she shared her reaction to Clarkson’s recent cover of “Heart Like A Truck.” Clarkson, from Fort Worth, Texas, applauded Wilson’s empowering song and noticed she’s covered others, including “Watermelon Moonshine.”
“I just wanna tell you this... This is coming straight from my heart,” Wilson said on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “Even when you’re up here just covering everybody else’s songs, it’s not just like you just learned the words and you got up there. I mean, you are feeling it for everything that it is. I just wanna say thank you for doing that. That means so much to me that you got up there and sang ‘Heart Like A Truck.’ …You’re singing everybody’s songs better than they sing ‘em!”
Wilson is also nominated at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards, alongside other heavy-hitters in the genre like Luke Combs, Jelly Roll and others. See the full list of country artists nominated here. Fans across the country will be able to watch the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards live as the show will be airing live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, April 1st from 8pm-10pm ET live/PT tape-delayed on FOX. The event will also be broadcast on iHeartRadio stations nationwide and on the free iHeartRadio app.
