Bobby Might Be Allergic to Diapers

Bobby thinks he might be allergic to diapers.

When asked why, he explained that every time they change the baby, he starts sneezing uncontrollably. He said it could be something in the diaper material, mentioning small particles that seem to trigger it. Despite the reaction, he clarified that he wasn’t trying to get out of diaper duty, just pointing out what he’s been experiencing. Others questioned whether the allergy was real, suggesting he wear a mask or avoid changing diapers altogether, but he said he would just push through it. Some of the show suggested diaper alternatives, including cloth diapers. He reacted strongly against the idea, saying he couldn’t imagine using them, especially considering how many diapers they go through daily. Others shared similar skepticism, noting that while some parents attempt cloth diapers, many abandon the idea due to the amount of laundry and mess involved. There was also confusion about how cloth diapers work, with mentions of liners or inserts designed to manage the waste.

He compared the situation to allergies in general, noting that while some people can avoid allergens, diapers aren’t something they can eliminate. Still, he stayed focused on managing it rather than avoiding responsibility. Bobby shared that it’s unrealistic for a parent to avoid diaper duty entirely, especially in the early stages when both parents are learning everything for the first time. Eddie admitted to previously avoiding diaper changes by pretending not to notice when a diaper needed attention, only for his wife to handle it later. The show also discussed how long it takes before one parent can confidently care for a newborn alone for several hours, estimating around a month. It was noted that both parents are learning simultaneously with their first child, and responsibilities often divide naturally.

Bobby shared that while there were aspects of newborn care he couldn’t physically do, his role became supporting his wife in every other way from cleaning the house, washing bottles, doing laundry, to making sure she has food. He described it as learning how to be effective support while she handled the primary responsibilities with the baby. He also acknowledged how quickly his perspective has changed. While he was initially uncomfortable with the realities of diaper changes, he said he has already become used to it. He compared it to caring for a pet, explaining that what once felt overwhelming becomes routine over time. Newborn diaper changes are different than he expected, especially early on when the baby’s diet is limited. He joked about describing it in simple terms to avoid going into detail, but acknowledged that it requires frequent attention and plenty of wipes. He also pointed out a common frustration for parents, babies often go to the bathroom again during a diaper change, leading to even more diaper use. He joked about how quickly they go through diapers and gave a shoutout to parents everywhere dealing with the same situation.

Despite usually having an entrepreneurial mindset, he admitted that it has been completely absent lately. Instead, he is fully focused on supporting his wife and adjusting to life with a newborn. Others reassured him that mindset would eventually return, but for now, his priority remains at home.
