Another "heat dome" is setting up shop and bringing high temps to much of the U.S. this week. So Google looked at the top "heat wave" questions Americans have been asking.
Here are the five top-trending heat-related questions we've been googling this past month.
1. What temperature is considered extreme heat? There's not one single definition. 95 wouldn't be seen as "extreme" in Phoenix, but might be in other cities. So it depends. Local officials make the call.
2. Why does extreme heat make you tired? Your body has to work harder to maintain its normal temperature. It can also make you toss and turn, so you don't sleep well. And just being dehydrated can make you tired too.
3. How do you prepare your body for extreme heat? Make sure you go into it well-hydrated, and keep drinking fluids to STAY hydrated. Loose-fitting clothing can help too.
4. Does hot weather affect type 2 diabetes? Yes. People with diabetes get dehydrated more easily. And being dehydrated raises your blood sugar, which makes you need to pee, so you get MORE dehydrated. Heat can also mess with insulin levels, so you might need to test your blood sugar more often.
5. Is hot weather bad for pregnancy? Yes again. Your body already has to work harder to control your temperature when you're pregnant, and it's harder to stay hydrated too. Pregnant women have a higher risk of heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
