A writer for "Slate" did an op-ed on finding the perfect gift for kids, and says the best thing you can give them is, $20 and a candy bar.
She stumbled on it by accident. She needed a last-second gift for her friend's son's birthday and didn't have time to pick something out. So she grabbed a Kit-Kat and wrapped a $20 bill around it.
She was worried he'd think it was dumb and boring compared to the REAL gifts he got. But he loved it and yelled, "Money AND candy?
The kid's parent texted later and said it was his favorite gift. And THEY appreciated it, because it wasn't another toy to trip on.
Now it's her go-to gift for ALL birthdays, Christmases, and everything in between. The best part is it requires no thought and basically zero effort.
