Carey Junior High Funding Pulled by Wyoming Senate

"The Wyoming Senate approved an amendment Friday that removes $42 million the House of Representatives already approved for replacing Cheyenne’s Carey Junior High from House Bill 58, the school facilities appropriations bill.

The Senate still has two more readings of the bill this week, but unless the funding is returned through another amendment, Laramie County School District 1 will not receive funding this year to build a new facility.

Sen. Bruce Burns, R-Sheridan, is a chairman of the Joint Appropriations Committee. He said, “The funding was moved to major maintenance for schools that desperately need it throughout the state.”

Major maintenance refers to school maintenance projects such as roof repair. Those projects are funded differently than large construction projects," stated the Wyoming Tribune Eagle.
