Danielle Bradbery has a wise word of advice to her younger self.

Ten years ago, the country artist kicked off her career when she emerged victorious on season 4 of NBC’s smash-hit competition series, The Voice, competing on country giant Blake Shelton’s team (now, a decade later, Shelton is the winningest coach in the show’s history and gearing up for his final season).

Bradbery, now 26, has come a long way since her Voice win at 16. Most recently, she kicked off her new era of music with “A Special Place,” a fiery single — written by Maren MorrisShane McAnallySasha Alex Sloan, and Jimmy Robbins — that promises “a special place in hell for you.” Before that, she announced a genre-bending new chapter of her career with In Between: The Collection, sticking with her country core while fusing “R&B, pop, and rock elements” into her music. Bradbery’s latest single inspired the name of her soon-to-start headlining tour, which she’ll kick off on February 23 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Now, Bradbery is thinking about what she’d tell her teenaged self.

“I actually think about this all the time, cause I think about what would I tell myself, looking at 16-year-old Danielle?” Bradbery said, per her record label. “Just be true to who you are and don’t let anybody, either in the industry or around you, tell you who you should be or should look like. I feel like that really matters, and that’s where you can get kind of lost in yourself. And that’s such a scary place to be. And I would tell myself just be extra careful, and stay true to who you are.”
