Luke Bryan Shares Somber New Song 'Drink A Little Whiskey Down'

Luke Bryan has returned with a cloudy country ballad.

On Friday (March 5), the country superstar released his new single, “Drink a Little Whiskey Down,” a bluesy record of lost love produced by Jody Stevens and Jeff Stevens. Co-written by Bryan, Josh Thompson, and Matt Dragstrem, the song appears on Bryan’s deluxe edition of his 2020 album Born Here Live Here Die Here, which will be reissued on April 9.

The melancholic melody sees Bryan filling the empty space his former flame left behind with a little mountain dew as he drinks and sings his sorrows away.

“I drink a little whiskey, drink a little whiskey down / When the wondering if you miss me, missing you comes around,” the 44-year-old mourns over the twangy production. “Yeah it don't happen like it used to happen But when it does I twist off the cap And I drink a little whiskеy, drink a little whiskey down.”

The deluxe release of Born Here Live Here Die Here, which originally topped Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, will feature six new songs, including tracks “Waves,” “Country Does,” and “Bill Dance."

"When I came out with the original album of Born Here Live Here Die Here, we had already had three No. 1s off the album before we even released it. Now, we can go on and build and add new songs to the album,” he told PEOPLE in an interview last month. “I look at a song like 'Waves' — which is something that I really think has the potential to be a big, big summer hit — but I've got songs that are really country songs. For fans who think the album isn't as country as they wanted, these songs tell an outdoor country story and really say who I am and where I'm at as an artist right now."
